Butterfly Gorget
Built for Technology In Costume Crafts, this piece incorporates laser cut design, LED programming and installation, heat-shaping foam, and foam surface treatments. The goal was to make a piece packed full of technology that nevertheless gave the impression of an airy, organic garment.
Butterfly Gorget - Back
Back view of finished piece. The entire surface was treated with Plasti-Dip and coated with gold Rub-n-Buff. The cape is two layers of polyester chiffon, and the pauldrons are held in place with neodymium magnets. The circuit nestles in a carved recess along the spine.
Interior Butterfly Gorget
Programmed LEDs to alternate twinkling using an Adafruit Circuit Playground Express.
Butterfly Gorget Work In Progress
Draped in muslin, then pattern refined in Inkscape, and laser cut out of dense foam. Assembled and formed using heat gun and rubber cement.
